Captured Moments - Rambo Estrada

Kiwi master photographer Rambo Estrada has a passion for capturing coastlines that make us all drool. Over the decade Rambo's works really enrapture what we are all seeking. Rambo and his partner Elke test our wetsuits, bags and expedition wear in New Zealand's harsh climates. Rambo recently sent us a bunch of images from his recent adventures.

A lot of NZ’s coastline is difficult to access. There must be so many great waves that go unridden.

I went through a stage where I’d go swim every morning at sunrise. Most days the waves were average, which forced me to push my creativity a little more. I should probably start setting the alarm again.

I hiked into this spot but totally under estimated the swell size and took my longboard. It came in handy for the long paddles back out though.

I loved surfing this spot as a kid and imagined it would look rad from above. As soon as I got a drone, this was the first place I wanted to shoot.

The guy in the foreground was actually a backpacker washing his porridge pot.

My first van, a 1990 Daihatsu Delta. I used to drive it around the south island in winter wearing gloves and a balaclava as it had no heater. Geez we had some good times though.

It rains a lot in NZ, and we have ridiculous amounts of rivers. The river bars can be very fickle, but always worth a check.

I woke at sunrise to a fresh cyclone swell. Unfortunately the beach was a straight closeout, but I’d had this shot in mind for a few years, so slowed the shutter down and hoped to capture something interesting.
