Nick Green - Winter in the Southern Ocean

Over the years you might have seen Nick Green's work capturing stunning images of the Southern Ocean. While some surfers choose to travel to warmer climates in the Winter months, Nick tends to stay at home and document the wild oceans and moody weather conditions through the season.

'The colder months in Tasmania can be challenging. The days become shorter and colder and it’s often a time when people choose to go inward and hibernate, so your social interactions become less frequent. But it also brings so much beauty in the wild winter ocean,  moody conditions that I feel most inspired to document and be immersed in. I haven’t been able to get out amongst the elements and document the ocean the same way as I usually do this winter due to an injury, but here are a few special moments I've been able to capture.

I recently had a conversation with a friend about how we so often try to avoid uncomfortableness, especially growing up here in Tasmania, where it’s super common for people to escape winter for sunshine elsewhere but also how important it may be to lean into each season of the year, to feel the highs and lows of it all and to embrace the challenges that may come along with them, there's beauty in it all.'
